Birth Stories

As part of these birthing classes I am putting together, I want to have a day set aside to honor the woman who is becoming a mother. During this class I would love to be able to share positive birth stories that help uplift and inspire. As such, I would love if anyone would like to contribute to this. I have a few questions that I would like for anyone to answer. They are questions that are posed by Pan England in Birthing From Within.

1. What helped you most when you gave birth?
2. What was your spiritual experience of giving birth?
3. Is there anything you would do differently?
4. What do you wish you had known before hand?
5. If you could do it over again, what do you wish you could do the same?
You could answer one of these or all.
You can e-mail them to me at rachel.leavitt@gmail.com or just comment here.

I love new moms and babies, hence my blog. One of my favorite things is to see the joy that comes to new moms as they hold their baby in their arms. I also enjoy crocheting, reading, and my own 5 children at home. My favorite part about being a mom is watching my children discover their own talents and possibilities. I work part time as a nurse on a labor and delivery unit. I also consider myself to be part doula.

    1. What helped you most when you gave birth?
Thinking of the millions of women who have given birth naturally all across the world and feeling that uniting sisterhood.
    2. What was your spiritual experience of giving birth?
The indescribably intense love I had for my baby after giving birth naturally was amazing. This was my 3rd baby but my first natural birth. I love my first two children more than anything but it took a lot longer to adjust to them as newborns and feel the intense love I have for them now. With my third baby and my natural birth it was instinctual in a way I cannot describe. I was happy from the moment of birth through the next few months, like I was on a high. I never got depressed discouraged like I did with the first two. I felt like I had finally experienced birth the way God intended it to be for me.
    3. Is there anything you would do differently?
I am expecting another baby this spring and I will be taking a hypnobirthing or hypnobabies class to help me relax and stay calm. I really think I could have a nearly painless birth if I practice and prepare for it.
    4. What do you wish you had known before hand?
I wish I have known how amazing homebirth and natural birth were before I had any children. I wish I could go back and have my first 2 again so I could make better decisions for me and my baby.
    5. If you could do it over again, what do you wish you could do the same?
Pretty much everything, I would only change the fact that I didn’t take a natural childbirth class.
