“My work with pregnant women has shown me that giving creative expression to secret hopes and dark fears is a vital part of childbirth preparation. Daring to express oneself through painting, sculpting or poetry is a way a mother (or father) boldly says, ‘I made this, it’s about what I know, what I feel as a mother (0r father). This is me.’” (Birthing From Within, pg xi)
Birth is not only a preparation of the mind, but of the soul. I have really come to belief that the best way to truely prepare for birth is to explore our deepest held thoughts, beliefs, and ideas about birth. Art is a great way of doing this, and I would encourage anyone to do this. If you care to look or contribute, I have started an on-line art gallery at http://journeyofbirth.blogspot.com/.
